It’s once again that time of year. You may notice an increase in the pest infestation attempting to enter your home and yard if you haven’t Thankful that we have some green solutions for you. Let us try a few eco-friendly pest control remedies before using unhealthy pesticides and toxic chemicals to get rid of pests from your house. Your family will be happy to send back unbidden insects.
Basil leaves, mint, lavender, herbs, and rosemary have natural pest repulsing properties. These herbs can combat indoor pests in addition to helping to deter them from entering your garden.
Many people view herbs as “companion plants” in vegetable gardens and yards. They serve the dual functions of luring beneficial insects and keeping out pests.
Try planting some of the following if you don’t want companion plants in your garden but still want to keep pests from taking over the yard: petunias, chrysanthemums, lemongrass, clover, eucalyptus, lavender, or marigolds.
While most people season their meals to improve the flavor, some seasonings are highly repulsive to bugs and insects.
Seasonings like cinnamon, paprika, cayenne, salt, turmeric, black pepper, and others are excellent pest repellents. Just place a line of seasoning along the window sill. Consider it your method of establishing boundaries.
If you have detected pests in cabinets, bookcases, or other areas of the house, you could also want to throw some cinnamon, bay leaves, or cloves in little bags and place them there.
One of the most crucial elements in the pest protection method is cleaning. We advise you to perform the majority of your cleaning using natural solutions rather than bringing in poisonous or chemical-filled cleansers.
A simple homemade cleanser that works as a bug repellent is made with ½ cup vinegar, 2 cups water, and 10-15 drops of essential oils (particularly peppermint or eucalyptus). For a stronger spray, you can also try a simple mixture of one part coconut oil and two parts distilled vinegar.
No concerns if you don’t have any essential oils. Citrus peels can be added to a glass container or jar, covered with vinegar, and left to sit for a few weeks in a cool, dry area. After that, sift the mixture out, mix in some water, and use it as a homemade natural cleaning and bug repellent.
Cleaning with vinegar and/or essential oils gets rid of leftover food odours and bugs so they have no incentive to stay.
Another method to get rid of ant trails and keep pests away is to regularly wipe down window sills and frames with eucalyptus or clove oil. You might want to try a garlic spray on spiders. To begin, mix 1 ½ to 2 cups of water with 10 to 15 garlic cloves. After straining the mixture to get rid of any pulp, add roughly a gallon of water. Spray the areas where you’ve spotted spiders with the garlic spray after transferring it to a spray bottle. Since they dislike garlic, it works well as a pesticide. If you don’t want to prepare a large amount, you may simply mash up few garlic cloves and put them in a spray bottle with some water.
Why not put this food waste to good use instead of throwing away those orange peels, coffee grounds, and cucumber peels?
Orange, lemon, and lime peels can also be chopped up and applied directly to your garden to help feed your plants and serve as a natural insecticide. Use the peels to make a citrus cleaning spray. Keep peels on surfaces and window sills to reflect the pests. Naturally, to repel mosquitoes, leftover onion may be diced, added to water, and left outside.
The aroma of ground coffee is intense. After the coffee grinds are brewed, it becomes stronger. Fortunately, a lot of pests dislike this odor. You can therefore use those grounds to help ward off ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, wasps, bees, and other insects rather than tossing them away. You can either put the grinds inside along window sills or on the exterior of your house.
Cucumbers do not appeal to ants. The next time you use cucumber in a recipe or just want to snack on one, take the peel and place it in strategic “points of entry” throughout your kitchen to deter bugs.
NOTE: Slicing cucumbers and other bitter cucumbers typically perform best.
As an aside, you should think about storing food in pest-proof glass or stainless steel containers. This will aid in food preservation, reduce waste, and ensure that there is nothing for those bothersome pests to find.
Keep your pets safe while preparing pest control services. Even natural pest control solutions can be dangerous to some animals when applied to their skin, and if the products are touched. Follow all necessary safety precautions if you have pets in your house, but never choose toxic chemicals and poisons as a “solution” for pest control. It is best to use natural, organic, and environmentally friendly methods.
Environmentally friendly pesticides typically contain compounds found naturally in plants, including vegetables that we eat. Historically, people have employed plants as organic insect deterrents. Typically, plants & green pesticides rely on for their efficacy and safety. Pests cannot develop resistance to these, as well.
